As many of you are aware, here at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, we aim to please, and are committed to bringing you as complete a service as possible under one roof, making it possible for you to arrange just one visit to source all your dental, beauty, skincare and product needs. In addition to this, we also offer a facial aesthetic service, allowing you to say goodbye to those lines and wrinkles with the minimum of fuss.
Following a consultation with our Facial Aesthetician, and Cosmetic Dentist, Dr Paul Redbond, your concerns and requirements can be assessed, and appropriate options discussed and prescribed as required. As injectable line and wrinkle treatments are a prescription only product, it can only be prescribed and administered by a suitably trained and qualified professional, and for optimum results, appropriate dosage and use is imperative. In some cases, injectable treatments are not an appropriate treatment option, and in these circumstances, we will advise of other possible treatment options that may address your concerns and requirements.
You have all heard of some of the procedures and products used for the management of lines and wrinkles, which include muscle relaxing injections, Collagen based fillers and more. We can provide any of these where appropriate, and can advise as to the best treatment option for your specific case.
In simple terms, the treatment options are grouped into 2 categories- Dermal Fillers, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Softline and Teosyal, and Muscle Relaxants, or ‘muscle freezing injections’.
The Dermal fillers are exactly that, and are usually based on Hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in almost all animals. The product is injected into the skin, just underneath the region of the line/ wrinkle, and immediately ‘fills’ the area to lift the line and reduce it. The muscles in the area are still fully functional after filler treatments. The treatment can sometimes be undertaken with topical anaesthesia only, but for more complex cases, dental anaesthetic injections are used to numb the area before treatment commences.
Generally these products are used for the lower part of the face around the nose and mouth, but other areas can also benefit from this type of treatment. Most dermal filler treatments would last between 6- 18 months, and can be repeated as required.
The Dermal filler treatments can also be used for enhancement and recontouring of the lips, and reshaping of the nose and other facial areas, and because the products are naturally broken down in the body over time, you cannot be left misshapen or disfigured as a result of this treatment.
Muscle relaxing or freezing injections act directly on the muscles responsible for most lines in the upper section of the face (forehead, between and around the eyes), and block the nerve endings which cause the muscle to contract. The active product is a toxin, but in the doses required for aesthetic treatments, is considered completely safe, and much larger doses are used for medical procedures than we would ever be using.
The treatment is not instant, but takes effect over a period of approximately 2 weeks, after which it will generally last between 3- 6 months before a top-up is required. Usually, no anaesthesia is required for the administration of muscle relaxing injections.
